Public Input Needed on Montgomery Stormwater Codes

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection is hosting a public meeting this Saturday June 5th to discuss revisions to the Montgomery County Code to meet new stormwater regulations.   The location is Rockville Library, and time is 10 a.m. – 12 noon.   Click here for the event flyer.

Anacostia Restoration Plan Unveiled

At yesterday’s unveiling of the Anacostia Restoration Plan in Bladensburg, one highlight was Governor Martin O’Malley citing the willingness of Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett to embrace higher stormwater standards as an example of what will be needed to restore the Anacostia. It is hoped that Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland will follow County Executive Leggett’s lead so that the Anacostia and other regional waterways may be restored.

Montgomery County State of the Streams Public Meeting 2/27

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host a regional public meeting to discuss the state of the county’s streams.  The public will be encouraged to provide input on watershed-specific restoration plans that address stream pollution in their area and meet new stormwater permit requirements.

The meeting will focus on restoration approaches in the West-Central region which includes Lower Monacy, Potomac River tribuatries (including Muddy and Watts Branch) and Seneca Creek watersheds.  It will be held on Saturday, February 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seneca Valley High School, 19401 Crystal Rock Drive, Germantown.

Implementing Montgomery’s MS4 Permit

At the introductory MS4 permit implementation meeting on Wednesday night, Montgomery County unveiled a web site it has created to provide information and help with the process.

The site allows you to provide feedback on many specific aspects, including the Countywide Restoration Strategy, Watershed-Specific Restoration Plans, use of Environmental Site Design, and general comments.
