Restoring Sligo Creek’s Breewood Tributary
Thursday, April 30th, 2009The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection is working on a visionary project to restore Sligo Creek’s Breewood Tributary in Wheaton. The project includes an effort to get private homeowners in the neighborhood around the tributary to reduce stormwater runoff from their properties. Come and learn more about this exciting new project at next the Friends of Sligo Creek program meeting on Tuesday, May 19th at the Long Branch Community Center. Douglas Marshall, Stream Restoration Planner for the MCDEP, will speak and answer questions about it. This Breewood Tributary project is part of the Anacostia Watershed Restoration Plan Interim Report Framework created by the Army Corps of Engineers and state and local partners that was released to the U.S. Congress and the public on November 21, 2008. This interim plan focuses on potential restoration projects that might be done in the Sligo Creek watershed.
The meeting will be held at the Long Branch Community Center 8700 Piney Branch Road. Come at 7:15 for chatting. We will start the discussion at 7:30. Refreshments will be served.
